Location

The workshop will be held on the campus of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.  Located 25 km west of Dublin, NUI Maynooth is located in Ireland's only university town--combining the historical legacy of its medieval origins with a present day location in the technology heartland of Dublin, with close proximity adjacent to the Irish and European headquarters of many multinational high technology companies.  The university, the second oldest in Ireland, traces it's history back to 1795 and is a vibrant, rapidly expanding third-level institution with more than 6,000 students, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Arts, Science, Engineering, Philosophy and Celtic Studies.  The town of Maynooth offers excellent accomodation and social facilities for students and visitors, with easy access to Dublin city and airport.

Transportation

NUI Maynooth is accessible by public transport from most parts of the country, and is well served by two Dublin Bus routes, Dublin commuter and National rail links, Bus Eireann national bus routes as well as several private daily commuter and weekly coach routes.

The nearest airport to Maynooth is Dublin International Airport. The major carriers to this airport are Aer Lingus and Ryanair and it is well served by other carriers, with frequent flights from the UK, US and Europe and other international destinations.  Dublin airport has no rail link, so the best public transport option is to get a bus from the front of the terminal, or taxi to the city centre and continue on the bus or train to Maynooth from there.

Instructions from the Airport:

Train

There are no trains from the airport, so you must take either a taxi or a bus to the city centre.  Trains to Maynooth leave from Connolly Station. www.irishrail.ie

Buses

From the Airport, take the Airlink 747 connector bus from the arrivals deck to the central bus station (Busarus).  From the Central bus station (Busarus), walk 12 – 15 mins to Pearse Street to get the number 66 or 67a bus to Maynooth.  This should take about an hour, depending on traffic.  www.dublinbus.ie

Alternatively take the Aircoach bus from the airport.  This will leave you at the gates of Trinity College and walk 2 – 4 mins to the Pearse Street stop for the 66 or 67A bus. www.aircoach.ie

Taxis

There is a taxi rank on the arrivals deck of the airport. You can expect to be charged €50 - €75 depending on the time of day and the amount of traffic on the road for a taxi from Dublin Airport to Maynooth.

Car Hire

There are a number of car hire companies operating from Dublin Airport and Maynooth is approximately 20 miles away. Although the distance is short the journey time can vary widely depending on the volume of traffic on the M50, Dublin’s ring road, and N4, one of the main arteries from the western suburbs and the city centre. Typically, these routes will be most congested in the late afternoon and early evening as commuters return home.

There are also a number of of taxi services based in Maynooth town which will provide access to both the city centre and also to the airport.

         Express Cabs          +353-1-628-9866

         MCL Cabs               +353-1-628-6539

         Maynooth Cabs       +353-1-628-9999

There is also a light-rail link from Maynooth to the city centre with trains running every 30 minutes.  This is the recommended public-transport route to the town though a bus service is also available.

Accomodations

Maynooth, being a small town, possesses limited accomodation facilities in the town itself.  Our two recommendation are the four-star Glenroyal Hotel and the Hawthorne Lodge B&B.

The Glenroyal Hotel is a modern 4-star hotel hotel located only 5 minutes walk from the campus and offers a range of facilities including restuarants, sports and leisure complex and spa treatments.  Typical costs range from €99-150 per night.

An alternative option is the Hawthorne Lodge.  This is an familty-style bed-and-breakfast hotel without the features of the modern hotel.  However we can recommend the Hawthorne Lodge for the quality, comfort and welcome that they offer.  Typical costs range from €30-50 per night.

There are a number of other high quality facilities in the surrounding areas but these will need a car to facilitate access.  Please get in touch if you need further advice.
